Law school to host regional receptions next month

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The SIU School of Law next month will host a series of regional receptions for alumni, attorneys, judges and friends of the law school.

Receptions are in St. Louis, Chicago, Springfield and Carbondale. The receptions serve a variety of purposes in addition to giving alumni the opportunity to meet with law school staff and faculty, said Elizabeth Murphy, the law school's director of alumni affairs and annual giving. The receptions also provide the opportunity for officials to talk with hiring partners about job possibilities for current second- and third-year law school students, meet with employers who have hired SIU School of Law graduates, and even allow current law school applicants the opportunity to meet with law school officials, including Dean Peter C. Alexander, Murphy said.

An added feature with the Tuesday, Dec. 11, reception in Springfield is the opportunity for attorneys to earn continuing legal education credit earlier in the day. The law school will host a professional responsibility CLE program, "Ethics Compliance: The Role of the Supervising Lawyers," with law school professor Paul E. McGreal. The class is from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Illinois State Library's Gwendolyn Brooks Building. Enrollment is limited. Registration is available at
