Arnold Air Society plans silent auction

by Eric Welch

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale's chapter of the Arnold Air Society will host a silent auction on Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Newman Catholic Center, located at the corner of Washington Street and Grand Avenue.

Starting at 2 p.m., gift certificates from area restaurants, local wine and other items donated by a wide range of businesses will be available to the highest bidder. The event is free and open to the public. Bidding will end at 5 p.m.

The Arnold Air Society is a professional honorary service organization within the Air Force ROTC at SIUC. It provides cadets with professional development opportunities and military conduct training while devoting most of its focus to community service.

"We love to do service projects involving the veterans as well as the rest of the community because of all they have done for us," said Bryce McGarvie, a sophomore from Elgin and a member of the society.

Proceeds from the auction will help send SIUC cadets to the Arnold Air Society's national conclave in Chicago, where they will learn to improve their training curriculum and the organization itself.
