Volunteers, supplies sought for benefit 'knit-in'

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. — What better way to stay cozy and warm when winter winds swirl than to wrap up in a cuddly afghan?

If you can knit or crochet or even donate needed supplies, you can be part of a holiday project at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Volunteers are creating patch afghans for residents at local assisted living centers. Anyone may bring scrap yarn and donated squares, 6 by 6 inches, to the SIUC Student Center Craft Shop on a continuing basis for use in creating the afghans.

There will be a "knit-in" Dec. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Old Main Lounge of the Student Center. Anyone who's willing to give of their time and talents to knit or crochet scraps into patch afghans is invited for a good time to benefit a good cause.

For more information, contact Ashley Wakefield at 618/843-8367 or via e-mail at awake86@siu.edu, or contact the Student Center Craft Shop at 618/453-3636, e-mail craftshp@siu.edu.
