Manners on the menu at etiquette dinner

by Eric Welch

CARBONDALE, Ill. — To increase their marketability and chances of being hired, some Southern Illinois University Carbondale students will learn to mind their manners at the dinner table during University Housing's etiquette dinner.

The dinner will be in Lentz Hall's dining room five at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 and will teach students professional etiquette, primarily in a formal dinner setting. The evening will include a five-course meal, practical advice on proper dining protocol, tips for job interviews and help with personal marketing and wardrobe.

"They'll learn the correct way to eat soup, which fork, spoon, knife, what to do with your napkin when you're done, posture, impressing potential interviewers, how to mingle with hors d'oeuvres, lots more table manners and of course a five-course gourmet meal prepared by our certified chefs" said University Housing's Paula Wilkerson.

The dinner is open to all SIUC students, and professional dress is required. The cost is $10, and students must register at the Residence Hall Dining office located in the lower level of Grinnell Hall by 4 p.m. on Nov. 12.
