SIUC to host personal trainer workshops

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Anyone interested in testing to become a Certified Personal Trainer or those already certified but looking for continuing education will want to check out two workshops at the Student Recreation Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The American College of Sports Medicine will conduct a three-day workshop Sept. 21-23 and a one-day session, Sept. 23.

The workshop presents valuable information to help anyone planning to take not only the American College of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer Certificate test but also the certification tests by other accredited groups, said Lynne Thompson-Cundiff, fitness coordinator for Recreational Sports and Services at the recreation center. She said the workshop also provides continuing education credits for those already certified as personal trainers.

The workshop is set for 1-9:30 p.m. Sept. 21, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sept. 22 and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 23. The cost is $375 for the three-day workshop or $129 for the one-day option. However, workshop participants taking the test for the American College of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer Certificate get a $30 discount on their testing and members of the organization receive another $60 discount, Thompson-Cundiff said.
