School of Music to host free recital on Sept. 22

CARBONDALE, Ill. — A new assistant professor in the Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Music and a guest artist offer a free recital at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 22.

Paul Transue, who teaches musical coaching this fall at SIUC, and San-Ky Kim, assistant professor of voice at Texas Christian University, perform at the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall in a free recital.

Transue has a specialty in opera coaching from the Eastman School of Music, part of the University of Rochester. His performance history includes performances and coaching positions with the Toledo Opera, Cleveland Institute of Music, Seattle Opera, Cleveland Opera, Ohio Light Opera and many more.

Kim, a tenor, holds a doctoral degree in musical arts from Temple University. He debuted professionally with the Philadelphia Opera Company. He appeared in several major European venues during his full-time opera career. His teaching career has taken him both to Europe and the United States.
