University to offer fall landscaping class

by Hillary Popejoy

CARBONDALE, Ill. – If breaking ground for your fall landscaping project finds you with more questions than answers, Southern Illinois University Carbondale has just what you need. The University's Division of Continuing Education is sponsoring a five-week "Fall Landscape Projects" course for those interested in learning about basic landscape installation and methods.

The class meets 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday from Sept. 4 to Oct. 2 in room 195 in the SIUC Agriculture Building. Karen S. Midden, professor in the College of Agricultural Sciences, will teach the course.

Participants will learn what to plant in the fall, proper drainage techniques, the basics of installing water features and much more. The course is aimed at providing the tools needed to help participants successfully finish their landscaping projects. The final 30 minutes of each class will be devoted to looking at a variety of resources or answering specific questions pertinent to individual landscape projects.

The $125 registration fee covers the cost of all materials. For more information about "Fall Landscape Projects" or to register, contact the Division of Continuing Education at 618/536-7751 or visit the Web site at www.dce.siu.edu.
