Accounting students win scholarships

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale's School of Accountancy, part of the College of Business and Administration, recently honored 12 students for academic achievement and contributions to the school.

The students, listed by hometown, are:

Columbia

• Joseph Reisterer received the Accounting Circle Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes socially gifted students in the School of Accountancy who maintain an overall GPA of 3.4 out of 4.0 at SIUC. Joseph is a freshman majoring in accounting.

Fairfield

• Ashley Zurliene received the Kenneth J. and Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. A senior majoring in accounting, Ashley is the daughter of Dennis and Vickie Zurliene.

Franklin Park

• Arturo Mendez received the Accounting Circle Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes socially gifted students in the School of Accountancy who maintain an overall GPA of 3.4 out of 4.0 at SIUC. A freshman majoring in accounting, Arturo is the son of Arturo Mendez and Angelica Aguirre.

Johnston City

• Jessica Gibbens received the Kenneth J. And Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. A sophomore majoring in accounting, Jessica is the daughter of Ronnie and Sarah Gibbens.

Marion

• Terence Yen received the Kenneth J. And Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. A senior majoring in accounting, Terence is the son of Ander and Shirley Yen.

Metropolis

• Vance Sawyer received the Kenneth J. And Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. He also received the Accounting Circle Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes socially gifted students in the School of Accountancy who maintain an overall GPA of 3.4 out of 4.0 at SIUC. A freshman majoring in accounting, Vance is the son of Don and Marna Sawyer.

Murphysboro

• Heath Koberstein received the Kenneth J. And Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. A senior majoring in accounting, Heath is the son of Mike and Jan Koberstein.

O'Fallon

• Richard Willis received the Kenneth J. And Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. Richard is a junior majoring in accounting.

Sparta

• Dane Williams received the Kenneth J. And Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. A freshman majoring in accounting, Dane is the son of Gordon and Kristal Williams.

Steeleville

• Lindsey Miller received the Kenneth J. And Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. A freshman majoring in accounting, Lindsey is the daughter of Neil and Tessa Miller.

West Frankfort

• Arjun Patel received the Kenneth J. And Jacqueline M. Hull Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes students with a minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA and have a strong desire to become a CPA. A sophomore majoring in accounting, Arjun is the son of Champak and Urmila Patel.

Fort Wayne

• Ann Marie Witkewiz received the Accounting Circle Scholarship of $1,000, which recognizes socially gifted students in the School of Accountancy who maintain an overall GPA of 3.4 out of 4.0 at SIUC. Ann Marie is a freshman majoring in accounting.
