Media Advisory - Dedication Ceremony

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the dedication of three beautiful large new cabins at Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Touch of Nature Environmental Center. The event will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, and will include remarks by several University officials, including SIU President Glenn Poshard and Board of Trustees member Sam Goldman.

State Sen. William R. Haine, D-Alton, secured $412,000 in state discretionary funds over a two-year period for construction of the state-of-the-art "super cabins" and demolition of a condemned washhouse and old cabins. The Jewish Federation of Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and Western Kentucky has long been a supporter of Touch of Nature and provided beds and mattresses for the new facilities. The Federation's annual Camp Ben Frankel is the first event to utilize the new amenities.

Touch of Nature is seven miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road. Once on the grounds, follow the signs.
