Media Advisory – Classical Guitar Seminar
Media looking for a cool, indoor story to start off the summer might consider stopping by the week-long, 26th annual classical guitar seminar at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, taught by classical guitar authority and SIUC professor of guitar, Joseph Breznikar. The seminar, set for June 4-8, is open to all ages, though most of those in the advanced seminar are college-aged, Breznikar said. Classes run from 9 to 11 a.m., with an additional half-hour lesson from 11-11:30 a.m. for beginners. After a lunch break, classes resume from 2 until 4 p.m.
Breznikar said he works individually with students, though in a classroom setting. His discography includes recordings of both original compositions and selections from the broader repertoire of classical guitar music, including “George Harrison Remembered: A Touch of Class,” an adaptation of former Beatle Harrison’s music to classical guitar, and Breznikar’s original music, “Cascade: A Rhapsody for Guitar and Chamber Orchestra.”
The free recital of advanced students from the seminar is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at the Old Baptist Foundation recital hall on the SIUC campus. The recital is open to the public.
Members of the media who want to cover the seminar can contact Breznikar at 618/453-5827 or at jbrznkr@siu.edu to arrange a time.
