Media Advisory – Presidential Golf Scramble
Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the 2007 Presidential Scholarship Golf Scramble, which begins with a lunch for participants at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 18, at Carbondale's Hickory Ridge Public Golf Center.
Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard will make brief remarks at 12:15 p.m., followed by interim SIU Carbondale Chancellor John M. Dunn and other officials. A number of scholarship recipients and their families will be on hand.
A record number of golfers will participate in the scramble – 156 – and the event will raise more than $30,000.
The late SIU President James E. Walker established the scholarships in 2001. They are the most prestigious and most comprehensive that SIUC awards each year, covering tuition, fees, and room and board. Minimum eligibility requirements for the Presidential Scholarship are an ACT composite score of 29, a 3.75 grade-point average on a 4.0 (perfect) scale, leadership qualities and Illinois residency.
