Nicole Pool wins special education scholarship
CARBONDALE, Ill. —Nicole Pool of Mt. Vernon (1802 Isabella Ave.), a Southern Illinois University Carbondale graduate student in special education, received the E. Lyle Sparks special education scholarship from the Department of Educational Psychology & Special Education Sunday, April 15, during Honors Day ceremonies on campus.
The $250 scholarship, created by the Sparks family in 2003, goes annually to a graduate student or teacher working to earn special education certification. Sparks played a key role in the creation of the Tri-County Special Education District, which serves all schools in Jackson, Union and Perry counties, and served as its director from 1968 to 1994.
Pool is married to Mt. Vernon resident Matthew Pool.
