Etiquette dinner offers tips for students

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Making a good first impression is important for Southern Illinois University Carbondale students as they participate in job interviews and other functions. The Spring 2007 Professional Etiquette Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, offers a unique learning opportunity.

University Housing is sponsoring the event, which will take place in Trueblood Hall's Eastmore Room.

The evening features a five-course meal prepared by University Housing chefs, served up with practical tips on personal marketing, building a credible wardrobe, table manners and interview tips. Modern interviews more commonly include a meal with prospective employers. The Professional Etiquette Dinner offers the tools to help students do well in any type of similar formal dinner situation. Any SIUC University Housing resident may attend, and must dress professionally.

The registration deadline is Friday, April 20, at Residence Hall Dining on the lower level of Grinnell Hall. The cost is $10, payable at registration. Students must present their student identification to register. For more information or to make arrangements for a vegetarian meal, call Residence Hall Dining at 618/453-3788.
