Association plans Cardinals-Cubs events

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Members of the Southern Illinois University Alumni Association are afforded many benefits. These privileges include an opportunity to order tickets to watch one of the premier rivalries in professional American team sports.

The SIU Alumni Association will host its 23rd annual SIU Day at Busch Stadium on Wednesday, July 25, in St. Louis. The association is also hosting its 30th annual SIU Day at Wrigley Field on Sunday, Aug. 19, in Chicago. Both games feature the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs.

Only SIU Alumni Association members are eligible to purchase tickets. A maximum of two tickets per household may be purchased for Busch Stadium Day beginning May 16. A maximum of four tickets will be available per household for Wrigley Field Day beginning May 23. All tickets must be ordered by calling the SIU Alumni Association office at 618/453-2408. Association office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. No tickets will be sold online. There will be no cancellations or refunds.

SIU Alumni Association members will attend a pre-game social at the St. Louis Hilton at the Ballpark Walnut Street Patio from 5 to 6:45 p.m. prior to the 7:10 p.m. Cubs-Cards game at Busch Stadium. Association members will receive an Infield Terrace Reserved section game ticket and enjoy a buffet featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans, chips, cookies and brownies for $50 per person.

SIU Day at Wrigley Field will begin two hours before the game with a pre-game social at the Cubby Bear Lounge, owned by SIUC alumnus George Loukas. After the social, guests will walk across the street to Wrigley Field and watch the Cards-Cubs game. Only $35 per person covers the costs of a Terrace Reserved section game ticket and one beverage at the Cubby Bear. A meal featuring brats, hot dogs, chips, coleslaw, and potato salad is available for an extra $12 per person.

Membership in the SIU Alumni Association is open to alumni, students and friends of SIUC. Annual individual membership is $40. Life membership is $500 with installment plans available. Student members pay only $15.
