CARBONDALE, Ill. — Some of Southern Illinois University Carbondale's premier students will be honored at a special dinner this month co-hosted by SIUC Interim Chancellor John M. Dunn and his wife, Linda, the SIU Alumni Association, and Student Alumni Council.
The annual Super Student Honors Dinner is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in the International Lounge of the Student Center. The semi-formal event honors the academic success and contributions 27 standout students have made to SIUC. Dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Ballroom D.
Officials will award 25 SIUC students the Distinguished Senior Award. Two students will also be honored with Super Student Junior Scholarships, valued at $500 each.
Distinguished Senior awards are annually bestowed upon outstanding SIUC students who enrich the University through their involvement in service, curricular and extracurricular activities, recognitions and achievements. To qualify for the honor, students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, provide letters documenting their contributions to SIUC, write a short essay on their qualifications as a candidate for the award and be graduating seniors.
Eligibility requirements for the Super Student Scholarship include being currently employed, actively involved in at least two Registered Student Organizations, community and University service, and maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Other components of the scholarship award include the quality of two short essays and having a strong case made by reference letter(s).
