SIUC publications capture awards
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Several writers, photographers and graphic designers at Southern Illinois University Carbondale recently won awards at the local ADDY Awards, which honors top advertising pieces and campaigns.
The contest is one of the largest and most competitive in the advertising industry, with some 50,000 entries each year. The American Advertising Federation conducts the annual competition. Its mission is to recognize and reward creative excellence in all advertising media.
SIUC competed in the local awards contest, which includes Southern Illinois and parts of Missouri and Kentucky. The University competed against more than 185 entries from other colleges and universities, hospitals and scores of other institutions that created advertising and other printed collateral.
SIUC won a silver award for the SIU Foundation's 2005 annual report. The report, themed "Envision," included financial breakdowns, photography and narratives describing how the Foundation's work helps University students of today and tomorrow envision their futures and achieve their goals.
University Communications staff members who worked on the 24-page piece include graphic designers Jay Bruce and Shawna Moyers, photographers Rusty Bailey, Steve Buhman and Jeff Garner, coordinator/writer Tim Crosby and Associate Director Tom Woolf.
The University won a bronze award for its 2006 Research Profile from the Office of Research Development & Administration. The profile used photography, statistics and narrative to describe and promote SIUC's thriving research environment to a broad audience.
Staff members who worked on the profile include Marilyn Davis, research publications coordinator at ORDA, and Bailey, Bruce, Buhman and Garner of University Communications.
"We take pride in the work of all of our employees and are appreciative when
their work is recognized and rewarded," said Mike Ruiz, communications director.
