Weather forces cancellation of Darwin Day speech

by Tim Crosby

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Weather on the East Coast forced Southern Illinois University Carbondale officials to cancel the annual Darwin Day speech scheduled for today (Feb. 15).

Poor weather prevented the scheduled speaker, Massimo Pigliucci, from getting a flight. Pigliucci is a professor in the Department of Ecology & Evolution at the State University of New York-Stony Brook.

The departments of zoology, geology and microbiology organized the event to commemorate the birthday of scientist Charles Darwin. Organizers hope to reschedule the speech for a later date.
