Volzke earns $3,000 dental scholarship

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Lynnae L. Volzke, a sophomore at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, is receiving a scholarship from a restorative dental firm.

Volzke, of Aberdeen, S.D., is receiving a $3,000 scholarship from Captek, which is distributed by the Precious Chemicals Co. Inc., said SIUC dental technology program director John R. Winings, an associate professor in the College of Applied Sciences and Arts' School of Allied Health.

The company offers a patented method for making precious metal substructures in the process for porcelain to metal crowns and bridges, and other restorations,

Volzke is in her second year of the dental technology program. In addition to her classroom studies, she assists in providing prosthetic restorations such as dentures, space maintainers and crowns to patients in the SIUC Community Dental Center, Winings said.

Volzke is the daughter of Dennis and Marlys Volzke (2322 Countryaire Estates).
