Saluki Finals Finish is set for Dec. 10-12

by Tim Crosby

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will have extra time to study and blow off steam built up by the stress of finals during the eighth annual Saluki Finals Finish in December.

The Student Recreation Center will stay open until midnight starting Sunday, Dec. 10, and will do so each day through Tuesday, Dec. 12. University faculty and staff will serve free food ranging from sub sandwiches to pizza and tacos, as well as beverages each evening there. Faculty members can reserve areas to hold study sessions for students.

The event is aimed at giving SIUC students additional time to work off stress, study for finals or simply relax at the end of a stressful day, said Gary Tisdale, coordinator of recreational sports and services. Faculty and staff volunteer throughout the event to socialize with students and offer them support during final exams week at SIUC.

Final exams week runs from Monday, Dec. 11, through Friday, Dec. 15. Commencement ceremonies are Saturday, Dec. 16.

Expanding the services offered to meet students’ health care needs is among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the blueprint the University is following as it approaches its 150th anniversary in 2019.
