CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety is investigating two incidents of battery that occurred during the weekend.
Police said the first incident happened at 11:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, near Allen Hall. A 26-year-old male SIUC student told officers he was walking on a sidewalk toward a group of men when one of them asked him if he wanted to "slap box." Not realizing the man had been talking to him, the victim continued walking. The man then said something else to the victim before punching him in the right jaw as the victim turned around. The victim then returned to his residence hall and called police.
The second incident happened at 3:21 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at Schneider Hall. A 19-year-old male student told police one to four males battered him.
In both cases, no descriptions of the assailants were available.
