Carmen Suarez to head enrollment on interim basis
CARBONDALE, IL -- Carmen Suarez, coordinator of diversity and equity, will take over as interim assistant vice chancellor for enrollment management at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, effective Sept. 25. She will serve in the position while the University conducts a national search to fill the post.
SIUC Provost and Vice Chancellor John M. Dunn made the announcement today (Sept. 26).

He added that Collins continues as director of Records and Registration, and is also serving as functional leader for the implementation of the new Student Information System and will concentrate on those responsibilities.
“We appreciate the contributions that Tina has made,” Dunn said. “I also look forward to working with Carmen as we continue to enhance our recruitment and retention efforts.”
Suarez said she looks forward to the new challenge.
“SIUC is both my alma mater and my professional home,”she said. “I am who am I am because of SIUC. For me, it is a labor of love to be part of the team that revitalizes our recruitment, retention and marketing efforts. During this transition period, it is my chance to give back to my institution by sharing with potential and current students and their families the passion I feel about the value of an SIUC education, a passion shared by a dedicated and hardworking enrollment management group with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the past. “
Suarez has extensive experience with affirmative action and minority recruitment. She served as SIUC’s Hispanic Community Liaison from 1994 to 1997. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from SIUC (1980) and a master’s degree in medieval history (1983).
