Homecoming festivities set at SIU
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Salukis from across the country will return to their alma mater during the first week of October for Southern Illinois University Carbondale's annual homecoming festivities.
A parade, football game, homecoming king and queen elections, tours and many other events are on tap Oct. 3-8. Glen Daum, ('62, '64) is the grand marshal of this year's parade. He is president of Daum Music Associates Inc., New York City, where he composes, arranges and produces theme songs and other music for a variety of entertainers and productions, including "Sesame Street," "All My Children" and "ABC World News Tonight."
Public events set for homecoming week include:
Tuesday, Oct. 3
• Homecoming king and queen elections. Students may vote from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hall of Fame area in the Student Center and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.
Wednesday, Oct. 4
• Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," 7:30 p.m., McLeod Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $6 for students. Alumni Association members receive a 20 percent discount.
Thursday, Oct. 5
• SPC Film, "Superman Returns," 7 p.m., Student Center Auditorium. Tickets are $3 for University students, $4 for non-students. Children 3 and younger are free.
• Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," 7:30 p.m., McLeod Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $6 for students. Alumni Association members receive a 20 percent discount.
Friday, Oct. 6
• Distinguished Alumni Recognition and Reception, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Alumni Lounge, Student Recreation Center.
•SPC Film, "Superman Returns," 7 and 9:30 p.m., Student Center Auditorium. Tickets are $3 for University students, $4 for non-students. Children 3 and younger are free.
• Volleyball, Salukis take on Missouri State, 7 p.m., Davies Gymnasium. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for high school age and younger.

Saturday, Oct. 7

• Homecoming Parade, 9:30-11 a.m., downtown Carbondale. The parade, which includes dozens of attractions and marching bands, starts at the corner of Mill Street and University Avenue and proceeds north on University Avenue to Cherry Street before turning south on Illinois Avenue and proceeding to McAndrew Stadium.
• SIU Intramural Moot Court Competition, 10 a.m., Law School Court Room 108, Justice J. William Grave, Kentucky Supreme Court, presides. The problem tracks the current trend of approaching HIV as a public health concern, not a purely private medical matter.
•SIU Alumni Association Big Tent and Tailgate, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., east side of McAndrew Stadium. Register to win complimentary lunch. Call 618/453-2408 for more information.

In addition, alumni are welcome to visit the Student Recreation Center, campus boat dock and Student Center Bowling and Billiards for free and discounted services and activities. The University Museum at Faner Hall also is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Creating and supporting traditions that foster a lifelong attachment to the University and building relationships among the University and its students and graduates are among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the blueprint the University is following as it approaches its 150th anniversary in 2019.
