'Saluki Oasis' will help welcome students, families

by Greg Scott

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A complimentary bowl of Dippin' Dots ice cream and a massage should hit the spot for Southern Illinois University Carbondale students as they move in to their residences for the fall semester.

All SIUC students and their families can take a break from escalating temperatures in Southern Illinois during a "Saluki Oasis," hosted by the SIU Alumni Association from 1 to 4 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 18. University and community dignitaries will join the Alumni Association in welcoming guests in the International Lounge of the SIUC Student Center.

Those attending can enjoy complimentary refreshments, including Dippin' Dots, and SIUC give aways.

The Saluki Oasis offers massages for interested participants. Student members of the SIU Alumni Association can also register for a $500 textbook scholarship drawing for spring 2007 semester. Students can join the association during the Saluki Oasis to become eligible for the prize.

The association is hosting the Saluki Oasis as part of the University's Week of Welcome festivities.
