SIUC to host variety of summer basketball camps

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- With Saluki basketball coming off another strong season, eight summer basketball camps will offer future Salukis opportunities to improve their basketball skills.

The camps are geared toward several age groups and to meet every skill level. The following camps will be offered on the SIUC campus:

Offensive Development, June 2-3

This camp is designed to focus on improving offensive skills such as passing, ball handling, and shooting. The emphasis of this camp is to improve individual one-on-one skills, but also includes games and contests.

Father-Child Camp, grades 1-12, June 10

This camp presents fathers and sons or daughters with the unique opportunity to learn the game of basketball together under the expert guidance of the SIUC basketball staff and players.

Junior High Team Camp, June 14-16

Any junior high team or individual is eligible to participate. Area teams will compete in league play with a camp championship. Teams should send registration together. Teams will be organized for individuals attending without a team.

Day Camp, grades 3-8, June 19-22

This camp emphasizes offensive skills development in addition to team play, contests, and fun. Basic fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, and passing are also stressed. You are expected to provide your own sack lunches or lunches may be purchased on a daily basis.

High School Tournament, June 24-25

This tournament is for high school junior varsity and varsity teams. Contact the SIUC basketball coaching staff at 618/453-4667 for more information.

Junior Saluki Camp I, K-grade 1, June 26-28

This camp focuses on the basic fundamentals of basketball in a fun and positive environment. Baskets will be lowered and smaller balls will enhance proper technique.

Junior Saluki Camp II, grades 2-3, June 26-28

This camp focuses on the basic fundamentals of basketball in a fun and positive environment. Baskets will be lowered and smaller balls will enhance proper technique.

Half-Day Camp, grades 3-8, July 24-27

This camp emphasizes offensive skills development in addition to team play, contests, and fun. Basic fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, and passing are also stressed.
