Registration deadline nears for engineering camps

by K.C. Jaehnig

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- High school sophomore and junior girls interested in high-paying jobs can learn more about engineering careers during two five-day camps at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

SIUC's Women in Engineering summer programs, held this year from June 11-15 and from June 18-22, introduce young women to engineering's many fields. Faculty members from the College of Engineering lead classroom activities and hands-on experiments, while women already enrolled in the college serve as camp counselors. Enrollment, limited to 24 per camp, will close after April 16.

To see what goes on in the programs, visit the college Web site at www.engr.siu.edu, mouse over the prospective students link, scroll down the pop-up menu to the Women in Engineering link and click. A downloadable application is available there as well.

The camp costs $250, which covers tuition, meals, residence hall room and some medical benefits. Applications must be postmarked by April 16. Students will receive acceptance notices by May 5.
