Teacher career fair set for April 5 at SIUC

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A teacher career fair at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on April 5 will offer students, alumni and interested community members a first-hand look at job opportunities around the country.

The event, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Student Center Ballrooms, will feature representatives from more than 21 school districts. Registration is not necessary and admission is free.

Job seekers should bring multiple copies of their resumes and any other pertinent credentials, and should dress appropriately.

The school districts attending will be looking to fill positions for the upcoming academic year, said Jaime Conley-Holt, an SIUC Career Services specialist. Openings are at the elementary and secondary grade levels, in special education, and school counselor and administrator positions. Some districts are looking for special education and speech language pathologists.

"The teacher job fair is an opportunity for candidates to explore education positions throughout the Midwest and beyond," Conley-Holt said.

Participants will include school district representatives from throughout Illinois as well as from school districts in Missouri, Tennessee and Kentucky. Career Services updates the list of participants as they register.
