Gala weekend will mark theater's 40th year
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Theater Department will hold a Gala Alumni Reunion Weekend April 7-8 to celebrate the 40th anniversary season of the department's main performance facility, The McLeod Theater.
The weekend features many events including an alumni reception and exhibits of scenic design work of past faculty/chairperson Darwin Reid Payne and former research professor and Broadway designer Mordecai Gorelik. The department also plans readings of new short plays by alumni; a gala dinner; keynote speaker, actor Peter Michael Goetz; an extravaganza performance reviewing the productions from the past 40 years and an anniversary party.
A tribute to Christian H. Moe is the highlight of the weekend. Moe was a member of the Department faculty from 1958-1998 and served as the Department Chair from 1989-1997. During that time he directed numerous productions and was instrumental in the training and education of hundreds of students.
The Gala Weekend is open to everyone with a fondness for SIUC's Theater Department and Moe. Tickets for the weekend, which include all events, are $50 for adults and $25 for children/students.
