Women's Studies graduate scholarship available

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Women's Studies Program is accepting applications for the Elizabeth Eames Women's Studies Graduate Scholarship.

Applicants for the $750 scholarship should demonstrate an interest and participation in issues pertaining to women and promise a master's thesis or doctoral dissertation that is a significant contribution to women's issues.

Applications must include two sets of the following:

• Coversheet with name, address, telephone and e-mail contact information.

• Letter outlining demonstrated interest and participation in issues regarding women.

• Two-page abstract of thesis or dissertation.

• Two letters of recommendation, including one from the chair of the applicant's master's or doctoral committee and another from an individual familiar with the applicant's work.

The program will post the scholarship directly to the winner's bursar account, which may alter the student's financial aid package.

Applicants should send their materials to M. Joan McDermott, director of SIUC's Women's Studies Program. Deadline for applications is Feb. 20.
