CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Women's Studies Program is accepting applications for the Donna M. Summerfield Women's Studies Undergraduate Scholarship.

The $500 scholarship is open to undergraduate female students with at least sophomore standing and a grade point average of at least 2.75 who will be enrolled full- or part-time at SIUC in the fall of 2006. Transfer students meeting these requirements may also apply.

Applications must include two sets of the following:

• Cover sheet with name, address, class standing, telephone and e-mail contact information.

• A 500-word essay focusing on the applicant's future plans, experiences and accomplishments, and how the scholarship would enhance those plans.

• Two letters of recommendation from faculty members.

The program will post the scholarship directly to the winner's bursar account, which may alter the student's financial aid package. The winner must show proof of enrollment before receiving the funds.

Applicants should send their materials to M. Joan McDermott, director of SIUC's Women's Studies Program. Deadline for application is Feb. 20.
