Summer playhouse auditions set for Feb. 18

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The McLeod Summer Playhouse at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will hold auditions for its 2006 season later this month.

Productions for the season include:

• "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," playing June 23-25 and 30, and July 1.

• "Cats," July 7-9 and 14-16.

• "ScriptWorks," staged readings of new plays, dates to be announced.

• "Beauty and the Beast," a regional all-star high school production, playing at 7:30 p.m. July 27-29 and 31, and at 2 p.m. on July 30.

Auditions start with registration at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Altgeld Hall, room 116. Dance call for all candidates runs 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Individual auditions follow from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Those auditioning should dress in dancewear that reveals the bodyline, prepare a short musical theater selection and a 30-second comic monologue. Candidates should bring sheet music for the provided accompanist. Music should be presented with cuts, start, and finish clearly marked. Recorded accompaniment is not allowed.

Salaries range from $100 to $300 a week. Some housing is available.

Rehearsals for "I Love You…Change" begin Friday, June 9, and will run 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and 7 to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Rehearsals for "Cats" and "ScriptWorks" begin Tuesday, July 11.
