Campus Safety Alert
Southern Illinois University Carbondale police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 2:02 a.m., Friday, Dec. 16, underneath the pedestrian overpass near Neely Hall.
A 20-year-old SIUC student told police he was walking when a car pulled into a space in parking Lot 14 on the west side of Neely Hall. The victim said three suspects exited the car, approached him, and asked for directions to a local club.
One of the three suspects told the victim to drop his wallet, and exposed the handle of what the victim believed was a pistol tucked in his belt. The suspect with the gun picked the wallet up from the ground, took the money, and returned the wallet to the victim. The suspects returned to the car and drove north through the parking lot onto Washington Street.
The victim was not injured.
The victim described the first suspect, who had the gun, as possibly Hispanic, shorter than 6 feet tall, with facial hair. He was wearing baggy clothing. The second suspect is a white male, shorter than 6 feet tall, 150 pounds, wearing baggy clothing and a gray hooded sweatshirt, with chin-length curly hair. The third suspect, of unknown race, is 6 feet tall, with dark hair, baggy clothes and a black hooded sweatshirt.
The suspect’s car is a dark-colored, four-door Pontiac.
