by K.C. Jaehnig

CARBONDALE, Ill -- Sponsors of REACH, Southern Illinois University Carbondale's undergraduate research and creative activity program, are seeking entries for their annual award competition.

REACH (Research-Enriched Academic Challenge) awards provide as much as $1,500 to support undergraduate student projects involving one-on-one work with a faculty mentor. Students prepare proposals outlining what they want to do and who will help them; a faculty panel composed of representatives from each college makes the selection. In addition, students may opt to receive a yearlong assistantship for 10 hours weekly with their faculty sponsors.

Proposal guidelines and application packets appear on the REACH Web site at Academic departments also have these materials. Proposals must reach the Office of Research and Development Administration at C-206 in Woody Hall by 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26.

Those with questions may call Jo Nast or Paula Shoemaker at 618/453-4540. Reach them by e-mail at or
