Law school to host swearing-in ceremony

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host a swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 10, for 114 new attorneys.

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier is presiding over the ceremony, which begins at 2 p.m. in the law school auditorium, located in the Hiram H. Lesar Law Building.

The new attorneys come from within the state's Fifth District. The judicial district includes 37 counties and extends from Christian and Shelby counties to Alexander County.

“We are very excited that Justice Karmeier asked the SIU School of Law to host the ceremony,” Dean Peter C. Alexander said. “It is an opportunity for us to showcase the school to people who are not familiar with our institution and to celebrate with our alums, many of whom will be sworn in at this week’s ceremony.”

Similar ceremonies also will take place Thursday in Chicago, Springfield, Rock Island and Elgin.
