Homecoming parade winners announced

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The 2005 edition of Homecoming at Southern Illinois University Carbondale drew an estimated 15,000 people to the parade route in downtown Carbondale on Saturday morning, Oct. 1.

The 70 units in the parade featured 2,300 participants. There were 15 high school and junior high bands, with 1,075 participants.

Here are the parade winners:

Class A Bands

First place: Harrisburg High School

Second place: Carterville High School

Third place: Carbondale Community High School

Class B Bands

First place: Gallatin High School

Second place: Ramsey High School

Third place: Trico High School

Class C Bands

First place: Du Quoin Middle School

Second place: Benton Middle School

Third place: Carbondale Middle School

Small Float Units

First place: SIUC Student Center craft shop

Second place: SIUC Student Alumni Council

Third place: SIUC Campus Shawnee Greens

Marching Units

First place: Fatal Fusion Dance Group

Second place: Stepettes

Third place: Girl Scouts of Jackson County

Car/Truck Units

First place: SIUC Mae Smith Hall Council

Second place: Girl Scout Troup #198

Third place: National Communication Association Student Club

Large Float Units

First place: Alpha Gamma Delta and Alpha Gamma Rho

Second place: Sigma Pi and Delta Zeta

Third place: Delta Sigma Phi and Sigma Sigma Sigma
