Masquerade ball will feature mask makers
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- If you've ever dreamed of dancing the night away as Cinderella or her Prince Charming, you'll want to attend an upcoming masquerade ball at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.A black tie event, guests should plan to don masks or come in full costume.
The gala will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center (150 E. Pleasant Hill Road) in Carbondale. Tickets are $50 each. To purchase yours, call Patricia Guyon at 618/549-1690.
SIU President James E. and Mrs. Gwendolyn Walker will be your hosts for the evening.
Proceeds benefit the University Museum at SIUC. The event is in conjunction with a museum exhibition on masks and will feature live mask makers from around the U.S. and their elaborate creations.
The New Arts Jazz Quintet, a string quartet, Lori Merrill-Fink, Jeanine Wagner and the Marjorie Lawrence Opera Theater singers will provide themed music throughout the evening. Among the featured pieces will be selections from "Phantom of the Opera."
A fashion show featuring masks and hourly drawings for original masks made by visiting artists will fill out the program.
