Members invited to pre-game tailgates
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Members of the Southern Illinois University Alumni Association are invited to gather at pre-game tailgates prior to each Saluki home football game.
Alumni members will gather under the SIU Alumni Association tailgate tent, located on Saluki Row, north of the SIU Arena. Saluki Row will be the site for all tailgates, with the exception of the Association's Homecoming Alumni "Big Tent" celebration on Oct. 1, which takes place east of McAndrew Stadium.
Each tailgate will begin three hours prior to game time. Attendees can enjoy complimentary food, beverages and music. The alumni member tailgates are sponsored by Venegoni-Horrell Distributing, Pepsi, Mississippi River Radio, and the SIU Alumni Association. Hosting this year's tailgates are Tres Hombres Mexican Restaurant (Sept.10), Regions Bank (Oct. 15), Herrin Security Bank (Nov. 5), and the Southern Illinoisan (Nov. 19).
"Our alumni tailgates were well received last year. We strive to continue offering benefits and privileges to serve our members in the best way possible," says Ed Buerger, executive director of the SIU Alumni Association. "These tailgates provide a vehicle for alumni, students, and friends to network with each other and exhibit their support of the Association and SIU football."
Members are welcome to attend all pre-game tailgates, including the annual member appreciation event, scheduled for Saturday, Sept 10. Non-members interested in attending the gatherings can join online (www.siualumni.com) or at the event. Membership is open to alumni, students, and friends of the University. Individual annual dues are $40, life memberships are $500, and installment life plans are available. Joint annual dues (for couples) are $60, life memberships $600, and installment life plans are available. Current and graduating SIUC students can join the Association for a special rate of $15.
The SIU Alumni Association has established relationships with several businesses that provide discounts on products and services to members. It is a means by which the organization extends its appreciation to members for their support of the Association and the University.
