CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the American Red Cross and as part of the University's comprehensive relief plan, announced it will collect monetary donations for victims of Hurricane Katrina at Saturday's football game against Union College.
The athletics department will have tables set up at all four entrances to McAndrew Stadium with student-athletes manning the tables and asking for donations.
All money will go to the American Red Cross Relief Fund for the Katrina victims and will be coordinated through the American Red Cross regional agency in Herrin. Kickoff for the game is 6 p.m.
Serving others is among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the long-range plan the University is following as it approaches its 150th anniversary in 2019.
