They’ve survived life-altering fires. Now, they just eager to be carefree kids, whooping it up for a week at summer camp.

Photographers, film crews and reporters may catch with these young burn survivors as they test their courage and coordination on the high-ropes course from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., Thursday, July 21, at Touch of Nature Outdoor Environmental Center. Southern Illinois University Carbondale runs the outdoor center, located about seven miles south of town off Giant City Road.

Touch of Nature hosts ten young burn survivors between the ages of 9 and 17.
They live in Southern Illinois and the Metro East areas. The week- long, residential adventure camp sponsored by firefighters, who hold year-round fund-raisers to cover the cost of the annual program, the only one of its kind in our area.

For more information, call Touch of Nature at 618-453-1121, ext. 0. Or call camp coordinators Dana MacCrimmon, a Carbondale firefighter, and Greg Hollmann, at 618-561-2876.
