CARBONDALE, Ill. -- High school students interested in learning what engineers in various fields actually do attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Women in Engineering summer camp.

These students used computer-assisted design tools, built microprocessor design boards, assembled and raced her own mini-hovercraft and took part in other engineering-related classes and projects.

The annual event drew 17 participants. Faculty members from the College of Engineering led classroom activities and hands-on experiments, while women already enrolled in the college served as camp counselors.

Offering education-related camps is among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the blueprint for the development of the University by the time it celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019.
