Touch of Nature hosting adventure day camp

by Paula Davenport

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Hey kids: Grab your gear and get ready for a week's worth of extreme adventure July 25-29 at Touch of Nature Outdoor Environmental Center just south of Carbondale.

You'll try all sorts of "Survivor-like" activities — including rock climbing, caving, canoeing and treetop high obstacle courses. Southern Illinois University Carbondale runs the wooded outdoor center on Little Grassy Lake.

The Summer Adventure Day Camp is open to guys and girls entering fifth, sixth or seventh grades and meets from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Just catch a ride to and from Touch of Nature, seven miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road.

Camp cost is $175.

Bring a sack lunch, water bottles, swimwear and sunscreen — and wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting grubby.

Reserve your spot today. Call 618/453-1121. Camp is coordinated through the center- affiliated Underway Adventures program.

Providing outreach activities is one of the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the long-range plan the University is following as it nears its 150th anniversary in 2019.
