Students win $34,000 in scholarships

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Undergraduate and graduate students in the Curriculum and Instruction program took home more than $34,000 in scholarships during Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s annual Honors Day ceremonies.
The program is part of the College of Education and Human Services. In all, 43 undergraduate and graduate students received awards in 22 categories. A total of 20 Teaching Excellence in Mathematics and Science (TEMS) awards of $1,000 each were among the awards. Also, four graduate students received awards – The J. Murray and Myrtle Lee Scholarship, the Cummings Scholarship, and the Audrey Tomera Memorial Scholarship.
Achieving excellence in graduate and undergraduate programs is among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the blueprint for the development of the University by the time it celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019.
