CARBONDALE, Ill -- Members of the 1990 Missouri Valley Conference Champion Saluki baseball team will be special guests at the SIU Alumni Association’s member appreciation tailgate Saturday, May 7 at Abe Martin Field.

Southern Illinois University Alumni Association members are invited to enjoy the pre-game tailgate beginning at noon, prior to the SIUC-Wichita State baseball game on campus. Alumni members will gather under the Association’s tailgate tent on “The Hill.”

Participants will enjoy complimentary lunch and beverages. SIUC’s game against the Shockers follows at 2 p.m. The member appreciation baseball event is being hosted by the SIU Alumni Association.

Nonmembers interested in attending the function must join the SIU Alumni Association. Annual membership is $40 and life membership is $500, with life installment plans available. A membership application and complete list of benefits are available online at siualumni.com.

The 1990 Salukis were the last SIUC baseball squad to win the MVC title and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Starting pitcher Sean Bergman and relief ace Al Levine, two key performers in the team’s NCAA run, subsequently played in the Major Leagues. Bergman, recently retired from a 10-year professional baseball career in the Major Leagues and Japan, plans to attend the May 7 event. Levine currently pitches in the San Francisco Giants organization.

To make reservations for the baseball appreciation event, members must call the SIU Alumni Association at (618) 453-2408.
