CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Get ready to kick up your heels in late April as the musical "Dancing at Lughnasa" bursts onto the McLeod Theater stage at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The curtain will go up at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, April 27-30, and at 2 p.m. Sunday May 1. Tickets are $11 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, and $6 for SIUC students with IDs and children. To charge by phone, call 618/453-3001.

Box office hours are noon-5: 30 p.m. weekdays and an hour before each performance. The theater and box office are located in the Communications Building on campus.

A three-time Tony Award winner, the play peeks in on five Irish sisters living in the hills of rural Ireland in the mid -1930s. But when they receive their first radio, music begins to brighten their lives.

Dancing and music in the play explore the themes of Irish cultural identity, nostalgia, historical change and religious rituals.

SIUC's Theater Department is sponsoring the play in conjunction with the 2005 Irish Festival, a variety of cultural events around campus and Carbondale that unfold over several days and nights.

Segun Ojewuyi, assistant professor of theater, will direct the work. SIUC alumnus James Moody will serve as lighting designer.

"Dancing at Lughnasa" wraps up McLeod Theater's regular season.

Penned by Brian Friel, it first graced the Abbey Theatre stage in Dublin Ireland in 1990. After that, it moved to Broadway, to much critical acclaim.
