Living history exhibit will mark Civil War's end

The display "Immigrant Soldiers, American Heroes: The Contribution of German Immigrants from Southern Illinois during the Civil War" is being curated by Ryan Warner, a graduate student in history at SIUC and a Civil War reenactor.
Admission is free. The Museum is located in the north end of Faner Hall.
To get things rolling, modern members of the Sons of Union Veterans Hecker Post 443 will portray soldiers in the 43rd Illinois Infantry of the 1860s, as well as a Civil War Honor Guard from 2-4 p.m.
Civil War-era newspapers, replica uniforms and a genuine Civil War drum carried by the 43rd Illinois Infantry Regiment — with the names of the drummer boys written on one head — will be on view.
Other Illinois objects include a bible carried by Jefferson Lelend Brown of Company E of the 4th Illinois Cavalry.
Many pieces are on loan from collector Robert K. Mohrman of Smithton.
Museum hours, which continue through May 1, are: Tuesday-Friday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday -Monday: 1-4 p.m.
