Week of Jan. 16-22:
Monday, Jan. 17
• Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Breakfast, 7-9 a.m., Grinnell Dining Hall. Chancellor Walter V. Wendler and Chris Lowery, men's basketball coach, will be among the speakers celebrating the life and legacy of the civil rights leader.
Tuesday, Jan. 18
• Tsunami victims fund-raising news conference: With students back on campus for the start of the spring semester, student leaders and Chancellor Walter V. Wendler will join forces to encourage students to contribute to the international relief efforts for tsunami victims. In addition to Wendler, the presidents of the International Student Council and Undergraduate Student Government will speak, as will William Recktenwald, a journalism faculty member who survived the tsunami while vacationing in Sri Lanka. Approximately 430 students from nine affected countries attend SIUC. The news conference begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Student Center Illinois Room.
