Law school plans Chicago, St. Louis receptions
CARBONDALE, Ill. - - Southern Illinois University Carbondale's law school is holding regional receptions in Chicago and St. Louis later this week for alumni, attorneys, judges and friends of the law school.
"It's a great opportunity to interact with our alumni and friends in the Chicago and St. Louis area," said Dean Peter C. Alexander.
Alumni receptions serve a variety of purposes, including student recruitment and job placement for current students, said Elizabeth Murphy, the law school's director of alumni affairs and annual giving. She anticipates that more than 170 alumni, donors and friends will attend the two receptions.
The receptions also provide the law school with an opportunity to update alumni about what is going on with faculty and students, she said.
"Keeping alumni and members of the legal community informed of the good things that are happening at the School of Law is vital to our recruitment efforts," said Michael P. Ruiz, law school director of admissions, media and community affairs. "Attorneys talk to each other about law schools and their experiences. Whether it is recommending a school to a prospective applicant or hiring a recent graduate, our image and reputation in the legal community are very important. Bringing alums together at receptions like those in Chicago and St. Louis is one way we can ensure that they will have positive things to say about SIUC."
Donors and friends of the law school are also welcome at the receptions.
