Campus Safety Alert
Southern Illinois University Carbondale police are investigating a report of an aggravated battery and strong-armed robbery that occurred at 2:20 a.m., Friday, Oct. 1. The incident occurred east of the Student Recreation Center on South State Street.
The victim, a 19-year-old SIUC student, told police he was walking south on South State Street when four black males approached him and asked how much money he had. He gave the suspects his money and an earring. As he started walking north on South State Street, the suspects punched and kicked the victim in the head, back and ribs from behind.
The victim was treated at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and released.
The victim told police that a car with the four suspects had driven past him prior to the attack, and parked in Lot 45, which is south of the Student Recreation Center. The older model car is a maroon, four-door passenger vehicle with dark-tinted windows, possibly an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera.
The victim provided descriptions for three of the suspects. The first suspect is a black male, 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 150 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt. The second suspect is a black male, 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, wearing a do-rag, and the third suspect is a black male, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 140 pounds, with braided hair. Each of the suspects was wearing blue jeans. The victim was unable to provide a description for the fourth suspect, or of the person he believes stayed in the car.
