Seminar for dental professionals is Oct. 1

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A Southern Illinois University Carbondale seminar for dental professionals will address the role of a dental hygienist in identifying oral lesions that are often early warnings of HIV infections.

Topics in the Oct. 1 daylong program include an overview of the Southern Illinois CARE Consortium and its HIV services, a current picture of HIV in Southern Illinois, truth about the risks of transmission and current HIV standards of care and treatment.

Speakers include Dr. Jacob Shiloah, presenting "Risk Factors in Periodontal Disease" and Steven St. Julian on "HIV in Our Community, Fact and Fiction: Guide for Compassionate, Effective Treatment."

The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SIUC Student Center. Registration is $85 per participant, $35 for students and includes continental breakfast and lunch.
