SIUC's Rivers named to national health group

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Patrick Rivers, health-care management program director and associate professor in the College of Applied Sciences and Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, has been named to a fellowship with the Commission on Education for Health Services Administration, a national accrediting commission of the U.S. Department of Education.

The commission is the professionally recognized accreditation body for master's level health administration programs at institutions of higher education in the United States and Canada.

"The accreditation program is designed to foster high quality professional education with respect to the administration of hospitals, clinics and other health-care facilities," Rivers said. "Graduates of accredited programs also work in such areas as health planning and evaluation and health policy."

Paul D. Sarvela, dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts, said the fellowship will provide invaluable opportunities for Rivers to work with renowned practitioners and academicians who serve as commissioners for some of the most significant organizations in the health-care industry.
