SIU Alumni Association begins online service

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Alumni Association is introducing an online service to assist alumni from the Carbondale campus who wish to connect with their alma mater and fellow alumni.

This new SIU Alumni Online Community will allow alumni to locate and communicate with classmates, view and update their personal on-line profiles, purchase SIU merchandise and receive campus updates from the Alumni Association.

In addition, participants will be able to register for alumni events and join or renew memberships in the Association.

SIU's Alumni Online Community may be reached by way of the Web site at siualumni.com, the official site of the SIU Alumni Association.

The service will go live in July.

"The SIU Alumni Online Community will connect alumni with campus, fellow alumni, and the SIU Alumni Association 24 hours a day and seven days a week," says Ed Buerger, associate vice chancellor and executive director of the SIU Alumni Association.

"The SIU Alumni Association is committed to building relationships between alumni and their alma mater and we expect this new online community will become a major tool in accomplishing this goal," he added.

Similar associations across the country have instituted online communities for their alumni. In addition to SIUC, other associations who have introduced an alumni online community include Colorado, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and West Virginia.
